Grassfire.org Action Alert

December 22, 2005  ·  Filed under: Activism

The FairTaxScorecard.com calls for supporters to contact Grassfire.org at http://grassfire.org/email.asp?YearEnd=1&Ind=12 and voice your interest in the Fair Tax. Grassfire.org is seeking suggestions for their 2006 strategic planning. They are basically asking us what is important. Tell them to promote the FairTax more. They have positively mentioned the FairTax in the past but nowhere near the level of other issues.

We need to tell them:

“The Fair Tax is certainly just as important, if not more important, than the other issues Grassfire.org promotes. However, I have seen minimal support and mention of the FairTax from your mailings and on your website. I suggest that your organization become familiar with the NY Times #1 Best selling “FairTax Book” and also the contents on www.FairTax.org such as the economist’s endorsement letter and all of the research papers. A previous book “America’s Best Kept Secret: Fairtax” by Al Ose also provides excellent data on the Fair Tax. This is an outstanding issue very well suited to the grass roots arena as congress will never pass such an aggressive tax reform on there own.”

Grassfire.org is a user supported site and they are big on asking for donations in their newsletters. Let them know that your contributions are solely based on how much they promote the FairTax.

Every one of us needs to fill out this form, and tell them that you want them to promote the FairTax in 2006! Be sure to provide your city, address, and phone number so your response gets the full consideration it deserves. This is no time to remain anonymous—fully backup your Fair Tax comments with your name and contact information.

Floridians have posted the majority of the 1000 or so comments. Congratulations to Florida. However, Fair Tax is not a one state issue and grassfire will demand support from states across the nation. The best way to do this is to; first post your own request, and; second, contact a family member from another state and have them post their support also.

One thousand, messages is a noticeable turnout. However, considering the 600,000 plus Fair Tax petition signers, the current level of response is bordering on pathetic—we can do better. We must all:

1. Click on this link and post your comments or the above quoted text, include all of your contact information.
2. Contact a family member from another state and have them do the same.

One final task is to forward this message (http://www.fairtaxblog.com/20051222/grassfireorg-action-alert/). Post a link to your states Fair Tax yahoo group or other forums if this issue has not already been announced. Pass a link of this message to your friends and family in all states.

Viva la Fair Tax

  1. Fair Tax is the best idea to ever be floated. It is fair and SIMPLE. You really need to push this!

  3. Have you read it???? It does not make implementation of the retail sales tax dependent on the repeal of the 16th amendment, meaning we would probably end up with both right from the start, or later on. The wording is just as obscure as the current tax code. Changing the name of the IRS and its director doesn’t change their real function–someone still has to oversee all of us potential lawbreakers. Will our babysitters, and lawn boys become tax collectors under this act? This “simple” legislation is anything but. I got excited about it at first, but dig a little deeper, and there is an ominous ravine of unanswered questions where there should be a solid foundation.

  4. Yes, I have read the bill. Have you?

    `SEC. 901. ADDITIONAL MATTERS.

`(c) De Minimis Sales- Up to $1,200 per calendar year of gross payments shall be exempt from the tax imposed by section 101 if received–
`(1) by a person not in connection with a trade or business during such calendar
year prior to the receipt of said gross payments; and
`(2) in connection with a casual or isolated sale.

Money earned from an odd job by kids, or even neighbors will not have to charge sales tax. If your babysitters or lawn boy takes in more than $1,200 per year – then they should collect tax. They have created quite a business. There is no reason to give them an exclusion.

Also, how is this any different than today. We teach our children to get odd jobs that pay cash. They are told not to report the income. Today we are corrupting our children and teaching them to lie. Some of these people continue their lives with cash businesses and life long tax avoidance. Others have to pay more to make up for the evasion. Which type are you?

I think you need to reread the bill—but this time, open your eyes.

  6. Fair Tax and Flat Tax schemes will never work because of the huge tax bureaucracy which is presently in place.

Any workable scheme will include a life-time buy-out of ALL this bureaucracy ot they won’t go for it at all.

And the voters will not allow that buy-out even if it makes sense on paper, because, psychologically they wouldn’t be able to stomach all those former tax people getting a lifetime free ride.

    These plans are forever stymied.
