Feeney Makes Fifty and Bonner Makes Fifty-One

Representative Tom Feeney of Florida’s 24th district commits to cosponsoring the Fair Tax Act of 2005. The Representative’s formal backing of this liberating tax reform propels house support past the half-century mark. Six new cosponsors have signed the bill. That is over 13% growth in six weeks.

Representative Feeney recognizes that the Fair Tax “would allow Americans to keep all of the money they work for and effectively halt the federal government from taking these dollars before we even see them.” The action backs up his beliefs that the citizens of our country deserve a better system than the current complex and unfair tax system as the annual tax deadline approaches.

“Though I still have concerns that the 16th Amendment, which grants Congress the power to implement an income tax, must be repealed in order to prevent future abuse of this authority, I believe this legislation provides a real solution to the complexities and inequalities of our current tax code,” stated Representative Feeney. The representative became the eighth of fourteen cosponsors of H.J.RES.16, which will repeal the 16th Amendment to the constitution on April 12, 2005.

FairTax.org developed the FairTax plan and it was introduced to multiple sessions of congress. Grassroots support has dramatically increased since the release of “The FairTax Book” coauthored by Representative Linder and Radio Talk Show Host Neal Boortz. Submissions of the best seller book to congress have surely demonstrated the public’s acceptance of the proposed tax reform. At least four copies of the book have been sent to the Representative Feeney’s Washington and Orlando District offices by FairTax.org volunteers and the Libertarian Party of Orange County FL. Popular public support is also demonstrated by ongoing letter writing campaigns.

The leadership of Representative Feeney on these two important pieces of legislation should be expressed to your representative. Representative Jeff Miller of Florida’s 1st district is the only other Florida leader cosponsoring both bills. Representatives Stearns (FL-06), Keller (FL-08), and Bilirakis (FL-09) cosponsor the Fair Tax Act, but have not signed to support repeal of the 16th amendment.

Rep Jo Bonner of Alabama’s 1st district also became cosponsor of H.R.25 on March 14th. Of the last six cosponsors, five were rated as “Leans For” and one was “WNC.” The ratings help us understand the overall position of congress. With the recent changes, we have increased the total “For” representatives to 68. Sixteen of these are not co-sponsoring H.R.25. Send them letters and ask them to get on board.

Write your representative with praise of Representatives Feeney’s and Bonnere’s leadership. Send a cc Feeney’s office at: 323 Cannon House Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20515-0924 or Bonner’s office at: 315 Cannon House Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20515.
